I love Wired's writing style. In general, Wired writers try to be very "with it" and "modern" when using language. Take, for example, this description of EA's virtual trophies in their Pogo online gaming service (emphasis mine):
The badges are virtual trophies players win for achieving their high scores in Pogo games, such as bridge or solitaire. Illustrated like weird Japanese snack bags, they're digital images about the size of a postage stamp.
It reminds me of a Tom Robbins novel or something.
