I was pleasantly surprized to discover that the Vatican has an astronomer. Talk about a renaissance man. Dr. Guy Consolmagno is an MIT graduate and a University of Arizona Ph. D. He is also a Jesuit priest. He has spent two years teaching in Kenya, been a visiting scientist at Goddard Space Flight Center, and has been to Antarctica for six weeks to collect metorites. He spends his time at the Vatican observatory in Arizona, and Castel Gandolfo, Italy, the home of the Vatican's meteroite collection, one of the largest in the world. Talk about a progressive thing for one of the world's biggest religous organizations. But I guess a lot changes in 400 years.
